THE PROJECT BUTTERFLY STORY

Project Butterfly began as a simple yet impactful Pesach project. The original idea was to create hand-crocheted butterflies, each symbolizing an Israeli hostage still awaiting freedom. These butterflies, lovingly crafted by members of the “Keep Knitting Together” group, embodied the themes of hope, transformation, and the universal yearning for freedom, all of which resonate deeply with the story of Pesach.

The project was not just about crafting; it was a way to raise awareness of the hostages’ plight and take tangible steps toward their liberation. By purchasing these beautifully made butterflies, individuals and families could bring the spirit of Pesach into their homes while knowing that all proceeds would directly support the Hostages and Missing Families Forum in Israel.

This ensured that every contribution made a meaningful impact, both in raising awareness and providing financial support to those most affected by the ongoing conflict.

As the project grew, it became clear that the idea of using creative expression as a means of support had touched the hearts of many within the community. The initiative, which began with crocheted butterflies, expanded to include a wide variety of items, such as clothing, jewelry, decorative pieces, and other handicrafts.

However, none of this would have been possible without the remarkable efforts of Judi Cohen. Judi was the driving force behind the creation of the initial Knitting Together Group, and she has continued to shepherd all future projects with unwavering dedication. Her leadership and vision transformed what started as a Pesach project into the larger project we are calling the Project Butterfly Craft Collection.

This collection, which officially launched at Live @ Shtiebel, stands as a testament to the power of community and collective action. Each item in the collection, whether it’s a piece of clothing, jewelry, or a decorative item, carries with it the same powerful symbolism of hope and transformation that the original butterflies represented.
